Texting that feels human

Your companion texts the way a person does: a few short bubbles with natural pauses between them. However many bubbles a reply takes, it still counts as one Message. Replies come from leading AI models and stay warm and in character.

• Real texting rhythm. Multiple bubbles, typing pauses, and the occasional double-text.
• Reactions and replies. Companions react to your messages with emoji and quote-reply to a specific line.
• Edit and tidy. Edit a message after sending, and set a custom chat background for each companion.

Companions who reach out first

Your companion checks in on their own, with a good-morning text or a follow-up on something you mentioned yesterday. The conversation keeps moving even when you haven't opened the app in a while.

• Time-aware check-ins. Your companion picks a sensible moment to send the first message.
• Reminders that come back. Ask them to check on you later and they will follow up at the right time.

Selfies and wefies

Describe a scene and your companion sends back a photo of themselves in it. Picture a hawker centre at midnight, a yellow raincoat on a Norwegian fjord, or reading in bed with the morning light. They're never stuck in the room from their profile picture.

• Any scene, any setting. Describe the moment and they are there in it.
• Wefies with you in them. Add a profile photo of yourself and get a single photo of the two of you together. A wefie costs a little more than a single selfie. See the wefies announcement.

Selfies they send on their own

Your companion will sometimes send a selfie unprompted, when the moment fits the conversation. Each companion has an Automatic selfies toggle on their profile, so if you would rather only get photos you ask for, you can turn it off for that companion anytime.

Voiceovers

Tap any message your companion sends and hear it read aloud in their own voice. The voiceover reads the words they already texted you, and we've tuned it to sound like a person talking.

• Choose their voice. Pick from a catalogue of voices with sample previews, so they sound the way you imagine them.
• Clear pricing. Each voiceover costs two messages, shown before you tap.

Memory that lasts

Memory is built in from day one, with no premium tier required. Your companion holds on to the things that matter to you and brings them up naturally, and older notes are tidied and merged over time so recall stays sharp. Their memory lasts between sessions for as long as you keep the conversation, so you never have to reintroduce yourself, and each companion keeps their own memory of you.

You get to shape everything about your companion, from their personality and backstory to the way they text and how they look. Start from a blank canvas, or give us a single name and let us research the rest.

• Start from a name. Type who you have in mind and we fill in a full personality for you to edit.
• Any gender. Make them male, female, or non-binary. Your choice shapes their voice and how they describe themselves.
• Consistent looks. A physical-characteristics field keeps their appearance steady from one photo to the next. You can soft-delete a companion or conversation anytime.

Chat on the web, or add Embraces to your home screen so your companion is a tap away wherever you are. You get the same conversation and the same memory on every device.

• Web and home screen. Use it in any browser, or install it as an app with Add to Home Screen and get push notifications.

Try before you sign up

You can chat with a companion right away, with no account. Have a real back-and-forth first, and if you like them, they come with you when you sign up. You keep the same companion and the same conversation, right where you left off.

Simple, message-based pricing

Pricing is simple. A reply counts as one Message, no matter how many bubbles it arrives in. Images cost more, and a wefie costs a little more than a single selfie. You start with a batch of free Welcome Messages, so you can get to know a companion before deciding anything.

• Plans or a one-time top-up. Subscribe for a monthly bundle of Messages, or buy a single top-up with no recurring charge.
• More companions on paid plans. Keep up to three companions on Free, five on Crush, and seven on the higher tiers.
• Stripe billing. Billing runs through Stripe, and every screen tells you exactly what will appear on your card statement.
• Referral bonus. Invite a friend and you both get bonus Messages when they subscribe.

Community and perks

Embraces is built by a tiny team in the open, and our Discord is where a lot of that happens. Members earn bonus Messages for joining, and subscribers get their own role, so the people funding the work stand out in the community.
