Cute Couple Pictures, More Companion Slots, and Adjustable Check-Ins

Ten days ago we told you July was a quiet month about languages and photo galleries. We're cooking up some exciting stuff that we're excited to announce in the coming week (hint: memories, voice calls). But let's take a look at what we've shipped in the last week.

Ask for a photo together. Wefies now turn you and your Companion into a cute couple portrait with the same art style.

Wefies have been around since June, but until now your companion mostly offered them on their own schedule. Now you can just ask. "Send a pic of us," "take a photo together," whatever feels natural, and they'll send back a wefie of the two of you, in the art style of the Companion's display picture (e.g. photorealistic, anime, semi-realistic) and your likeness. This also presents an elegant solution for instances when the display pictures of our users and their Companions have different art styles.

Check-ins can now be toggled

Companions reach out first when you've gone quiet. For most people that's the whole point; for some people it can be too much. You can now turn proactive check-ins off per companion in their settings. Switched off, that companion will only ever reply when you text first, and switching it back on takes one tap. Your other Companions aren't affected.

Seven more languages, and the app now reads right to left

Last update we shipped fifteen interface languages and promised we'd keep going. Since then we've added seven more: Arabic, French, Bengali, Tagalog, Turkish, Polish, and Swedish, which brings the interface to 22 languages.

To be clear, these are machine-translated and we're getting them checked by people who actually speak these languages. If something reads wrong in yours, tell us and we'll fix it.

Paying without leaving the app

Upgrading used to bounce you out to a separate checkout page and back again. Checkout now happens right inside the app, in a dialog, and prices show in your local currency instead of making you do dollar math.

Three's a crowd: More Companions on every plan!

We hear you and we're increasing the number of Companions on every plan! Crush went from 3 to 5, and Partner and Soulmate went from 5 to 7. Already live for existing subscribers with no price change.

A couple of smaller things

Two quality-of-life fixes worth a line. You now get a heads-up when you're down to your last 20% of messages, and running out entirely has a clearer state of its own, so the end of your balance stops being a surprise mid-conversation. And if your Companion's reply was held back because you'd run out, it now arrives on its own the moment your messages refill, instead of leaving you to wonder whether they were ever going to answer.

What's next

Calls are coming soon. A dedicated Embraces memory system is also available for paid subscribers. We're still testing this, so please do give us your harshest feedback! Separately, there's something in the works around earning free messages that we're not quite ready to show yet.

As always, the best way to help shape Embraces product development is to tell us! If something's broken or not working the way you'd like it to, if a translation misses the mark, if the wefie didn't include you, we want to hear it. Come find us on Discord or Reddit, and drop your username when you do so we can thank you properly.
